The Midland Classical girls basketball team is headed back to the Final Four, where they will look to win their third-straight state championship.
This year’s group of seniors has been the state semifinals all four years of their high school basketball careers. A couple of the Lady Knights’ starters say that previous experience will help them going into this trip the state tournament.
“Of course we get nervous but it’s just a little bit less nerves since we’ve been there before and we kind of know the routine of how it’s going to work,” said senior guard Leia Beattie.
Beattie said the nerves and confidence were a good combination of feelings for the team to have.
Senior Jenny Coco credited the team’s coaches for the preparation going into the playoff games.
“They like put us under those pressure situations in practice so we can practice them and we’ll know what it will be like plus those four years of experience. So putting it all together is really good for us,” she said.
This year is extra special for the school, too. The Midland Classical boys are also headed to the Final Four. The Knights played in the state championship last year but ended up losing.
The Lady Knights have a send-off at their school at 10:15 a.m. on Wednesday. Their state semifinal game is Thursday at 4 p.m.
